Title: Skirmish
Author: severinne
Rating: Green Cortina
Pairings: None established, but equal opportunity teasing for Sam/Gene, Sam/Annie, Gene/Annie... hell, probably some Sam/Gene/Annie for those squinting just right
Warning: All those pairings and no smut in sight. I disappoint myself.
Word Count: 2029
Summary: A cut-scene from 2.05: They had caught him together, and now knelt over his unconscious body, hands still pressed to his lean shape like children tagging home after an especially grueling round of hide and seek.
A/N: This is an old, long-neglected non-sequitur of a ficlet that probably should have remained unfinished, only Annie and Gene decided to just finish it off themselves regardless. I should probably also apologize for my first (and probably last) attempt at Annie!POV, I just don't write her enough to do her justice.

"When in bloodthirsty history did beauty ever save anyone from anything? Ennobled, uplifted, yes - but whom has it saved?
There is, however, a certain peculiarity in the essence of beauty, a peculiarity in the status of art: namely, the convincingness of a true work of art is completely irrefutable and it forces even an opposing heart to surrender. It is possible to compose an outwardly smooth and elegant political speech, a headstrong article, a social program, or a philosophical system on the basis of both a mistake and a lie. What is hidden, what distorted, will not immediately become obvious....
But a work of art bears within itself its own verification: conceptions which are devised or stretched do not stand being portrayed in images, they all come crashing down, appear sickly and pale, convince no one. But those works of art which have scooped up the truth and presented it to us as a living force - they take hold of us, compel us, and nobody ever, not even in ages to come, will appear to refute them."
Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, Nobel Prize in Literature 1970.

Okay, at this point I've gotten way too addicted to your praise and adulation, so here's me riffing on the GOF movie. I'd like to apologize ahead of time for all the gay jokes, they were just too easy to make.

Two things!
First, if you've recced any stories or art from BLU, please drop me a link to your rec post in the comments here! As with Snupin Santa, I'm happy to collect recs to submit to the Daily Snitch newsletter.
Second, the Retro Fest deadline is being extended until the end of August, so if you've been on the fence about participating or abandoned a bunny for lack of time, you've got more time. However, if you're close to finishing something, please go ahead and submit it because there will be a low key challenge in August that you might want to participate in.
